2008 Strength of Schedule Analysis

Glancing solely at a Strength of Schedule Chart won’t magically make you a fantasy champion. After all, in-season factors like injuries, shifting offensive philosophies, and on-the-fly defensive adjustments simply can’t be predicted. However, we don’t arrive at our SOS numbers by going off of last year’s stats; we project the strength of schedule for the upcoming season by giving each team a number grade versus the run and the pass, with consideration of things like player additions, losses, the draft, a change of system, etc. We then average out the grades we give each team’s 16 opponents to project the average grade against the run and the pass for all 32 teams. The teams with the lowest average grades have the more favorable schedules. Our system isn’t perfect, but it’s better than going off of (in some cases meaningless) 2007 stats.
So by studying our well-researched SOS analysis, you’re doing yourself a big favor and giving yourself a considerable leg up on your competition. This article can help you uncover players you should target on draft day, players you should deal or acquire at some point during the season, and players you might want to avoid altogether. If used along with our extensive player previews, our projections, our proven fantasy strategies, and our insider information, this deep look at 2008’s SOS could help you torch the opposition in 2008.
Just don’t use it strictly as the be-all, end-all of your summer research because, while we do our best to project how things will shake out, things change fast in the fickle NFL, so this feature is merely intended to be a launching point for further investigation.
Before we get into the analysis, let’s take a look at how all 32 teams stack up in terms of SOS for the run and the pass:
